How Bullibone Started

The story of how our CEO Trevor Jensen jumped in front of a car to save his dog, nearly died and dedicated his life to playing with dogs for a living.

Trevor was walking his dog one morning and a driver ran a red light and came speeding toward him and his dog crossing the street at an intersection. With no time to think, he just reacted. He jumped in front of his dog and pushed her out of the way. He was hit by the car and suffered internal bleeding, a torn ACL, a torn MCL, a concussion and a host of other issues. It was a hit and run and he was left in the street and had to get himself to the hospital. When Trevor was in the hospital he thought he was going to die because the doctors were rushing around and seemed panicked. He remembered thinking “If I die today was I happy doing what I was doing?” He came to the realization that he would be happy playing with dogs all day and helping to make his dog happier and healthier and not working a desk job. If his instinct was to sacrifice himself for his dog they are obviously very important to him.

After he got out of the hospital he did some soul searching and eventually quit his job and dedicated his time to figuring out how to make the dream of playing with dogs all day a reality. He partnered up with inventor and mechanical engineer, Leebob Willingham. Willingham had designed the original Bullibone chew toy to solve a daily problem he and his wife Leah dealt with, destructive chewing and dog boredom. Trevor pulled a small amount of money together from his friends and family and went to work turning Bullibone into a dog toy business. That was at the end of 2015 and Trevor has made designing toys for the average aggressive chewer and playing with dogs a focal point in his life since then.

Bullibone solves 2 of the biggest and most common problems dog owners face, destructive chewing and dental disease. Dental disease effects 80% of dogs over the age of three and destructive chewing is the third most common behavioral issue after barking and jumping due to a lack of mental stimulation.

A dog’s brain has a natural instinct to chew on things which helps clean and strengthen teeth as well as increase blood flow to the gums. In the wild, a young dog, small dog, older dog, or a large dog would all be found chewing on bones and sticks, but if domestic pups are not given something to chew on they will chew on shoes, tables, chairs, or anything hard they find in their environment. This can wreak havoc on a dog owners sanity.
